Grieg Seafood welcomes five-year licences in British Columbia
Grieg Seafood welcomes five-year licences in British Columbia and will work with all levels of Government, including First Nations, for a responsible, final transition plan

Grieg Seafood supports a transition of the salmon farming industry in BC into new technologies and practices that minimizes interactions between farmed and wild salmon, while also contributing to jobs and the economy in rural and Indigenous communities. Grieg Seafood appreciates the five-year renewal of all BC salmon farming licences.

This is a draft plan, and more work will be put into the final version. We look forward to engaging with the Federal Government, the Province of BC as well as First Nations for a responsible, final plan.

Grieg Seafood BC Ltd’s farming licenses were up for renewal by June 30, 2024. The Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans has announced that they will renew the licenses for 5 years, while further developing a transition plan for the salmon farming industry in British Columbia. Release of the draft plan -- based on the past two years of consultation with First Nations, industry and other stakeholders -- is imminent. The final plan is expected by 2025.
