British Columbia
Grieg Seafood BC Ltd. to recognize and honour National Truth and Reconciliation Day
In July, Canada declared September 30 a federal statutory holiday, naming it the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

Grieg Seafood BC Ltd. recognizes the rights of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples and is working to understand our responsibility to implement Reconciliation, each as individuals, and as an organization which operates in the traditional territories of several First Nations.

Reconciliation is defined as a long-term commitment rooted in Canada’s pledge to build a renewed relationship with its Indigenous peoples that are based on the recognition of rights, respect, co-operation and partnership.

For Grieg, that means continuing to listen and learn from First Nations partners, employees, communities and friends, and looking to them to lead and demonstrate how organizations can support healing and the furthering of Truth and Reconciliation within Canada.

In July, Canada declared September 30 a federal statutory holiday, naming it the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. Grieg Seafood BC feels it is important to honor and acknowledge this important day as a statutory holiday for its employees – allowing time for personal reflection and participation in community events.

Since 2013, September 30 has been recognized as Orange Shirt Day in BC and across Canada – a day to remember and honour the survivors of the Residential School System.
